Running Back Visits Tech

Running Back Visits Tech

Harrisonburg (Va.) High running back Michael Holmes is getting close to making a decision, and his coach said the Hokies remains in strong contention. In fact, Holmes made the trip to Blacksburg last week to check out Virginia Tech's game against James Madison. Holmes has another trip on tap, and VTInsider.com has the goods on what is happening.

For as loud and explosive as Harrisonburg (Va.) High's Michael Holmes is on the field, his recruitment has been that quiet off it.

The 6-foot, 190-pound Holmes took an unofficial visit last weekend to watch the Hokies play James Madison, and his coach said only a few others are in contention.

"He visited Virginia Tech last week, and he spoke to James Madison, Marshall and Virginia," Harrionburg coach Tim Sarver said. "Those are the schools he is talking to."

The interest in Holmes has remained to a few of the surrounding schools, and he could be close to choosing one.

"He really hasn't made any decisions about (a date)," Sarver said. "I'd say within the next few weeks he could make a decision about it."

JMU is in his hometown and Virginia and Virginia Tech are close by and Holmes visited them as well, but Marshall remains a foreign school.

"He hasn't been to Marshall yet, but he's supposed to go there in another week or two," Sarver said.

While his recruitment is ongoing, it isn't impacting his play. He has run 47 times for 382 yards and three scores in a pair of wins.
