Against the first-team defense, Kevin Jones burst through a hole on the right side and went untouched down the right sideline for the score. Jones finished with 48 yards rushing on just two carries to lead Tech's offense.
On offense, quarterback Bryan Randall completed 6-of-7 for 64 yards, while Marcus Vick completed 6-of-12 for 48 yards. Richard Johnson caught two passes for 35 yards to lead the receiving, while Chris Clifton caught two for 17 yards. DeAngelo Hall caught one pass for 17 yards before leaving the scrimmage with a sprained left wrist. Tech's sports medicine staff planned to x-ray the wrist later as a precaution.
On defense, the Hokies recorded six sacks, led by Jason Lallis' two. Nathaniel Adibi, Darryl Tapp, Tim Sandidge and James Griffin recorded sacks as well. Jimmy Williams led the defensive with six tackles, while Lallis and Mike Daniels finished with four each.
"I really like the way this spring practice is going," Tech head coach Frank Beamer said. "We've got competition at every spot and that's making everyone work hard. We've got two good quarterbacks and that's giving us a chance not to have any sloppy practices. I feel very good about where we're at right now."
The Hokies will hold their next scrimmage Saturday. The team will hold its annual Maroon-White scrimmage on April 19 at 2 p.m. in Lane Stadium/Worsham Field.
