"It went great," he said. "I got there about 9:00 and went to Coach Beamer's office and talked to him for about 45 minutes. He offered me a scholarship and we talked about Virginia Tech football and the facilities."
"Then we looked around the facilities," Bowers continued, "and I met Marcus Vick and met [Kevin] Jones. Afterwards, I talked to and met with some of the coaches."
And how did Bowers believe Tech's facilities stacked up to the likes of Oklahoma's? "They compare well how I grade them," Bowers said. "They're 1st class and nice. OU's is great and so is Virginia Tech's. They have a different atmosphere but they're both great."
Both Brett Bowers and his father, Joe, also noted that the coaching staff at Tech, namely Coach Beamer, was excellent. "He's a great guy," Bowers said of Coach Beamer. "He was just saying how I'd fit in their mold and said I was the guy they need."
Before the visit, Bowers seemed enamored by the Oklahoma program. After his trip to Blacksburg, is his decision easier? Not at all, Bowers notes. "It makes the decision a lot tougher, but I'm definitely excited about it," he said. "OU is a little strong right now and Tech is right there."
Bowers will visit Arkansas and Alabama in the coming weeks and expects to make a decision shortly after his visits. Stay tuned to VTI for the latest on Bowers.
