Phillips is one to watch

Pelion (S.C.) sophomore wide receiver Freddie Phillips is one of the top 2015 prospects in South Carolina. Phillips talks about his recruitment, future, and more.

Freddie Phillips had a great freshman season for the Pelion High School varsity football team. However, this fall teams put an emphasis on stopping him. Like many good players, Phillips adjusted and had a successful season.

"This season, I couldn't sneak up on people like last season," said the 6-foot-2, 175-pound Phillips. "So early on, I was seeing a lot of double teams and even triple one game. I wasn't used it, but then I adjusted and I started putting up numbers."

The sophomore playmaker is attracting a significant amount of interest from three schools.

"I'm hearing from Clemson, N.C. State and South Carolina the most," he said.

"I've visited all those schools. All the visits were pretty even and they were all fun."

Phillips is also attracting interest from other schools.

"I've also gotten mail from Florida State, North Carolina, Duke, Georgia Tech, and LSU," Phillips said.

Although he is receiving interest from several schools, Phillips admitted that there were a few more that he hoped to hear from.

"I've would like to hear from Alabama, USC, and Florida," he said.

For now, Phillips will focus on improving. He already has two camps in mind for the summer.

"My family vacations in Florida during the summer, so I'm going to try to go to camps at Florida State and Florida," he said. "Those are the only two I think I'm going to right now, but I'll probably go to some more."

Phillips finished the season with 32 receptions for 436 yards and three touchdowns on offense. Defensively, he had 48 tackles, one interception, and six pass deflections.
