Scout.com takes a look at some of the major news and notes that have unfolded on the recruiting trail in the Midlands region over the past 24 hours or so...
Wilson Feeling OSU?
Now that
Chip Kelly
has turned his attention to the NFL it seems that Scout.com Top 50 member
Dontre Wilson
, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound speedster from DeSoto (Texas) High is interested in taking a look in to the
Ohio State
Buckeyes and the
Oklahoma State
Cowboys.
On Thursday, DeSoto head coach Claude Mathis confirmed that Wilson has indeed scheduled a visit to see the Big 10 powerhouse on January 25th. The visit will likely go a long way towards his decision making process.
At this point the OSU in Columbus -- one of Wilson's final three at the time he originally picked
Oregon
back in May -- is not the only OSU that Wilson has confirmed a legit interest in since news of Kelly's departure was reported earlier in the week.
He has also scheduled a last second trip to see Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla. on February, 2nd.
Either program could find some unique ways to utilize him in its offense.
Duke Sets Visits
Rice
commitment
Duke Ejiofor
continues to see his stock rise. He is still adding offers as signing day approaches and will take a couple of trips.
This morning, he added an offer from
Wake Forest
. He has plans to take a visit to
Houston
this weekend and then he will take a visit to see the Demon Deacons the following weekend.
Ejiofor is listed at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds and reports a 4.53 forty time and a 39-inch vertical jump. He plays on the same defensive line as BCS target
Torrodney Prevot
and Oklahoma commit
Ogbonnia Okoronwu
.
Big Week for Timberview
It has been a nice week for Mansfield Timberview High. They have seen a number of major colleges drop in to check out its prospects over the past 12 months, but the last week has been really special.
On Tuesday, the school was paid a special trip by Texas Longhorns head coach Mack Brown. Junior defensive backs
Edward Paris
and
Brandon Simmons
, 2014 U.S. Army All-American selections, have both already been invited to Austin to check out the campus.
On Wednesday, it was
Stanford
head coach David Smith, fresh off of a win in the 99th annual Rose Bowl, who stopped in to check out the talent and on Thursday
Missouri
stopped in with an offer for Simmons.
The pair of defensive backs are being recruited on a national level, but Timberview also has
Brandon Garner
,
Damian Walker
and
Khalid Conner
drawing attention from scouts.
Prevot 's Busy Schedule
With scheduled official trips you can now officially classify
USC
commit Torrodney Prevot as a soft verbal. He is going to try and make three more official visit before things go quiet at the beginning of February.
It was stated earlier this year, at the U.S. Army All-American Game, that the Alief (Texas) Taylor star wanted to make sure that the commitment he made to USC was the right call.
And now the 6-foot-4, 205-pound speed rusher has booked official visits to Oregon (1/18), Texas A&M (1/25) and
Notre Dame
(2/1).
Hammad's Blow Up
Ever since standing out in the Semper Fi All-American Bowl
Rami Hammad
's recruitment has really heated up. Offers from schools across the country have been pouring in and top BCS contenders programs like
Alabama
,
LSU
and Texas have turned up the heat in recent days.
In turn the media attention has been cranked up a notch. With all of the interest pouring in from both sides Hammad has been a busy camper the past 10 days or so.
"I've been getting hammered," Hammad laughed. "But really it is in a good way. Its a blessing to have these opportunities."
After stopping by the school Texas offensive line coach Stacy Searels has invited the Scout.com 4-star prospect to Austin, Texas for an official visit, a visit that Hammad will make this up and coming weekend.
