From commitments to visits to offers, a look at the latest happenings in the East Region.

A spin around the East Region for the latest news and notes.

  • Pomfret High (McDonough, Ga.) offensive lineman Na'Ty Rodgers wound up at the place he held as his leader when he committed to South Carolina. He made visits to Maryland, Washington and Oklahoma as well, but a weekend trip to Columbia, S.C., sealed the deal.

Rodgers also cancelled a weekend visit to Florida State to show he is solid with the Gamecocks.

  • Pittsburgh had a nice start to last week when West Catholic High (Philadelphia) offensive tackle Jaryd Jones-Smith committed. He was also considering Virginia, but the fact the Panthers recruit Philadelphia so well (George Washington High's Justin Moody committed the week prior) was a factor in his decision.

  • Cedar Creek Regional High (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) quarterback Damon Mitchell solidified his commitment to Georgia Tech. Mitchell had trips to Boston College and Rutgers set, and was planning a visit to Arkansas, but after a visit by Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson, opted to shut down the recruiting process.

  • St. Augustine Prep (Richland, N.J.) running back Calvin Cass had offers from Army and Navy, and at the end chose the Midshipmen.

  • Ohio State commit Taivon Jacobs of Suitland High (Forestville, Md.) was contemplating a visit to Maryland, but told FOXSportsNEXT that is not going to take place and he is set with the Buckeyes.

  • Bishop McDevitt High (Harrisburg, Pa.) receiver Brian Lemelle began an official visit to Connecticut on Monday, and he will follow it with a weekend visit to Iowa. Lemelle is also in the process of setting up an official visit to Temple for Feb. 1.

  • Tottenville High (Staten Island) receiver Malique Belfort is looking at Arizona Western junior college, but is also having conversations with Tennessee, according to his coach, Jim Munson.

  • Rush-Henrietta High (Henrietta, N.Y.) cornerback Chauncey Scissum decommitted from Old Dominion and is now looking hard at Syracuse.

The Orange offered, and Scissum made an official visit to campus over the weekend and then told CuseNation.com "as of now, I think Syracuse might be my top choice."

  • In the 2014 class, Bethel Park (Pa.) High offensive lineman Michael Grimm added offers from West Virginia and Rutgers.

  • Gateway High (Monroeville, Pa.) is loaded with talent in the 2014 class, and coach Terry Smith left to become the receivers coach at Temple.

And one of the first thing Temple did after Smith was hired was offered junior defensive back Montae Nicholson, who was also offered by Georgia Tech during the week.

  • Class of 2014 offensive lineman Juwan Bushell-Beatty of Paramus (N.J.) Catholic High picked up his first offer when Massachusetts extended one.

  • Class of 2015 defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick of St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City, N.J.) added an offer from Connecticut. He also holds one from Rutgers.

  • Pittsburgh became the first school to offer Thomas Jefferson High (Jefferson Hills, Pa.) linebacker Chase Winovich. He finished his junior season with 69 tackles, including nine sacks.

  • DeMatha High (Hyattsville, Md.) outside linebacker JaWhaun Bentley added his second offer when Maryland extended one. The class of 2014 prospect also has one from Virginia.

  • West Virginia was the latest to offer class offer 2014 Shai McKenzie, a running back out of Washington (Pa.) High. He has 11, including ones from Tennessee, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Maryland and Purdue.

  • Class of 2015 defensive end Adam McLean of The Avalon School (Gaithersburg, Md.) picked up an early offer when Florida State extended one.

  • Old Dominion has a nice class going and added to it when 2013 defensive tackle Rashaad Coward of Sheepshead Bay High (Brooklyn) committed.
