Williams Returns From Tech; Holds One Offer

Jim Bob Williams

Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Florida has produced a handful of D-IA talents in recent years. Last year, Drew Steinmetz signed with Louisville, Brett Bowers with Oklahoma, Zach Davis with East Carolina, and Lamar Lewis with Florida State. This year TCA has another top talent, offensive lineman Jim Bob Williams. Williams recently visited Virginia Tech.

"It was very nice," Jim Bob Williams said of his visit to Virginia Tech for the Tech spring game. "Nice school, nice atmosphere and I love the coaches. All the players I spoke to talked good about Virginia Tech and the atmosphere there."

Williams, who attended the Tom Lemming photo shoot at Tech for ESPN, talked about his day at Tech. "After the photo shoot we went to the football facilities and watched a highlight video and talked about recruiting and grades, the SAT and ACT," he said. "They showed us the weight room and training room. Then we ate and watched the spring game."

Williams said he enjoyed his spring game experience. "All the fans were excited," Williams said. "Everyone enjoyed being there. It was a good time."

While in Blacksburg, he spoke with several of Tech's coaches including Coach Beamer, Ball, and Wiles before heading back to the Jacksonville, Florida area. "The coaches told me that they thought I had a center build and they'd put me on the board with the other guard and centers they have and review my film," Williams said.

Although the Hokies have yet to offer Williams, several schools have made offers -- one in writing. Williams has one official offer in-hand from Oklahoma State. Colorado has told Williams' coach that they consider him an offer but Williams has yet to receive the official paperwork.

Other schools showing interest who will likely stop by Trinity Christian to view spring practices in the coming weeks include Florida, Louisville, Nebraska, North Carolina, Duke, and Central Florida.

With a scholarship offer already in-hand, when would Williams like to make his college decision? "I kind of want to make something mid-June but I want to see how spring goes and see if a couple more come out and offer," he said.

Stay tuned to VTI in the coming weeks for more on Tech offensive line prospect Jim Bob Williams.
