Hokies In The Hunt For Hill

With C.J. Fleming's verbal commitment to Tennessee, the recruiting attention regarding Highland Springs (Va.) High School shifts more towards teammate Cris Hill.

"He's not going to take any unofficial [visits] unless he decides to go to a game here or there," said Highland Springs (Va.) head football coach Scott Burton of Cris Hill. "He's looking at taking official [visits] with Ohio State and Michigan just because they're way too far to go unofficially. We're in the process of setting [official] visits to both of those places. So those are those are definitely two officials. "Beyond that, I don't know how many other officials he wants to take because he's already seen every place unofficially. I would be surprised if he took all five. I would think that he would probably take those two and one or two others that stood out from his unofficials, but that's me speculating." According to Burton, Hill hasn't clearly indicated which schools from his unofficial travels have stood out. However, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound corner is definitely considering in-state school Virginia Tech. "Virginia Tech is definitely in the hunt," said Burton. Hill's parents will play a major role in his final decision as Hill looks for the school that gives him the best feeling. "It's something that he and his family are going to have to get a feel," said Burton. "He's got a great mom and a great dad who have gone on visits with him. It's kind of hard to quantify, because it's one of those things that you recognize when you see it, but you don't know what you're looking for necessarily until you see it." Hill would, however, like to have the same player friendly coaching staff he enjoys at Highland Springs. "He told me that he thinks it's important that he has the same kind of climate, atmosphere, and environment that he has at Highland Springs, because he feels comfortable in that kind of situation and wants to play for coaches similar to his coaches now," said Burton. There's no time table for Hill's decision, but with his primary concern being his senior football season, it's unlikely a verbal commitment would be made before that concludes. Hill's senior season kicks off Friday where an injury to the starting free safety will force Hill to fill in at that position. Offensively, Hill stars at slot receiver.
