Notes from Saturday's game against the Virginia Tech Hokies.

• Noland Burchette, Brandon Pace, David Clowney, and Danny McGrath were Tech's captains on Saturday

• Saturday’s crowd of 36,723 at the Wake Forest – Virginia Tech game was the 3rd largest in Groves Stadium history

• Representatives from the Chic-Fil-A, Champs Sports, and Music City bowls were in attendance

• Wake’s contest against Tech was the 2nd time this year the Wake trailed at the end of the 1st. Wake’s 3-0 deficit to Duke was the other

• Tech held Wake to just 37 1st quarter yards and forced four Deacon punts

• Hokie running back George Bell, who was rumored to be likely to be done playing football due to two knee problems, made an unexpected appearance on Saturday after Branden Ore went down with an injury

Josh Gattis’ interception in the endzone was his 5th of the season and 12th interception of his career. It’s also his 5th in the past six games.

• Virginia Tech's was the first team to have Wake Forest down by more than 10 points all season. The Deacs trailed by 10 to Clemson and Duke earlier this year

Sam Swank hit two field goals on Saturday making him 17-23 for the season; Meanwhile, Tech kicker Brandon Pace converted his lone attempt on the day to make him 15-15 this year

• Wake’s conversion on 4th down at the end of the 3rd quarter was the Deacs’ 1st 4th down conversion attempt of the season; Wake converted the the 4th & 1 and attempted another 4th & 1 on the drive that was stopped for no gain by Tech’s Barry Booker

• Branden Ore was injured during the 1st quarter of Saturday's game. Ore taped up his left ankle and spent the rest of the night on crutches. According to Coach Beamer, Ore would be reevaluated on Sunday. No x-rays were taken on Saturday.
