Alvarez Looking Ahead

Will Alvarez

Hokies commitment Will Alvarez' senior season came to an end earlier than he had hoped, but the mammoth offensive lineman still had an impressive senior season and is ready to attend Virginia Tech next season. Alvarez spoke with VTI Sunday night concerning his season and his future at Virginia Tech.

Perennially one of Virginia's top teams, Hylton High School and offensive lineman Will Alvarez aim for a state title each season. This season, Hylton came up short as they lost early in their playoff run.

"Well we made the playoffs, but it ended earlier than we expected but overall we had a good season," Alvarez noted. "We were 8-2."

Although the physically imposing lineman has only been playing football for a few years, he is picking the game up at a fast pace and improving each season. "It was a lot more consistent this year than last year foe me," he noted. "I just did a lot better this year with what I was doing."

Utilizing a running scheme at Hylton, Alvarez has become a good run blocker. "We run a lot so I've got good run blocking and quick feet," he noted. "I want to work on my pass blocking. I'm going to keep trying to improve that."

Although he continues to receive letters from other schools, Alvarez maintains he is 100% set on Virginia Tech. "I'm definitely all Tech," he said. "When I first went there, it was for their camp and I felt at home and thought hey, I can play here. They were all down to earth and real cool guys. It's a good distance from home."

At this point, he has not talked much with the Tech staff about playing next season but would love to see the field next year. Still, he believes redshirting has its benefits. "Really, we haven't talked much about that," Alvarez noted, "but I'm still young and still growing and learning. Even redshirting, I'd be happy with it. It's a lot of work to be ready for [ACC football."]

Alvarez, who is currently enrolled in a SAT prep course preparing for the SAT, plans to visit this weekend for the Virginia Tech – Virginia football game. Recommended Stories
