The Hargrave Post Graduates defeated the Virginia Tech J.V. Football team Friday afternoon in Lane Stadium by a score of 12-6.
Some of the standouts for Virginia Tech include:
Nic Schmitt - The true freshman was 2-2 on field goal attempts, connecting
from 47 yards out both times. Schmitt also averaged 42 yards per punt
despite being under heavy pressure most of the day.
Blake Warren - Warren was all over the field from his linebacker position. He
was credited with 12 tackles and 3 tackles for loss.
Ryan Hash - The walk on cornerback intercepted one pass, nearly intercepted
another and made several other nice plays in the secondary. You could tell
he was really fired up to be playing in a real game.
Jason Murphy - The redshirt defensive tackle did a nice job for the Hokies up
front, recording 9 tackles on the day.
Steve Canter - The Hokie fullback deserves serious props for pancaking
Hargrave's super linebacker Ahmad Brooks.
And finally we have a few notes on several Hargrave players:
Michael Hinton - Hinton didn't see as much playing time as one would think,
but Hargrave's defensive backfield is stocked with future stars. Tech
coaches did have a chance to see Hinton in person, so it will be a good
chance to decide how hard they want to recruit him in the coming months.
Ahmad Brooks - Overall, a very average day for the High School All-American
that signed with UVA. Brooks finished the game with 8 tackles and two
passes broken up. That doesn't sound like a bad line, but Brooks seemed out
of position on a few plays.
Chris Baker - The Hargrave wide receiver caught both of Hargrave's touchdowns.
Baker finished the game with 2 catches for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns. He
appears to be a very solid college prospect.
