Thourogood, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound athletic specimen, plans to visit the Hokies by the end the week.
"We were supposed to go last Friday, but something came up and I couldn't go," Thourogood said. "I'm trying to get there sometime this week, or this weekend. This is the only break I have with training, so this week or this weekend would be good."
Thourogood is also looking at Oregon, West Virginia and newcomer Arkansas, as well as several others, but he acknowledged the Hokies' recruitment has been the most consistent and intense of any of the schools.
"It's always been the same since Day One," Thourogood said. "Every school that I have, they've never been on me like Virginia Tech. The coaches try to get a good bond with me every time I go see them, every time I run into them.
"There's a certain type of bond you get from some coaches, and every coach on the Virginia Tech staff has that bond. There's something that attracts you to the coaches, and they let you know that they really want you."
Thourogood's recruitment started with schools looking at him as a receiver/athlete, but has morphed into plenty of schools now eyeing him as a quarterback.
That is the case with Arkansas, which recently grabbed Thourogood's attention.
"I really wasn't looking at Arkansas, but now I am," he said. "I talked to the coaches before, and they really wanted me. They came here and talked to my coaches, and I like the environment there and what they have to bring to the table."
Another potential change in Thourogood's recruitment is his timetable for making a decision.
Originally, he hoped to make a decision before his senior season began, but that is no longer the case.
"I'm really not sure when I will (decide)," Thourogood said. "At first I was trying to hurry up and make my decision, and then I talked to a few players who already played college and been trough what I've been through, and they told me to take my time.
"They said if a school doesn't want to wait until I'm sure, then I probably shouldn't go there. So, that's what I'm going to do."
