Virginia Tech grabbed another commitment when Cave Spring High's (Roanoke, Va.) announced ona local radio station he was committing to the Hokies. Cole wil play either linebacker or safety for Virginia Tech.

The lure of playing for the team he grew up watching was more than playing for legendary coach Joe Paterno.

Michael Cole, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker from Cave Spring High (Roanoka, Va.), gave a non-binding oral commitment to Virginia Tech on Monday. He made the announcement on a local radio station.

He was also considering Virginia and Penn State, but was concerned about Penn State’s distance from his home. It remains to be determined with Cole will safety or linebacker with the Hokies. One thing that opened eyes in Cole’s recruitment was a 4.49-second 40-yard dash at the Nike Combine in the spring.

As a junior he made 80 tackles and intercepted three passes. He also played running back and finished with 550 rushing yards and scored 11 touchdowns.
