Goins "leaning one way"

Manchester High (Midlothian, Va.) offensive lineman Jake Goins told VTInsider.com he is down to a pair of schools, and he is close to making a decision. He also said he was "leaning one way." What else did he have to say about his recruitment? Come inside and find out.

Jake Goins' visits are done and he has an idea where he wants to go to school.

However, the Manchester High (Midlothian, Va.) offensive lineman wants to let it soak for a few days before calling Virginia Tech and Virginia where he is headed.

"I really am just between the two," Goins said. "I'm kind of leaning one way, but I have to think about it for a couple of days."

Last week Goins told VTInsider.com he was still mulling over Maryland, but that is no longer the case.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Goins was told during a visit to Virginia Tech last week his offer was shifted from being a gray-shirt to that of a member of the class of 2011, if that is what he wanted to do.

On Friday, Goins took a trip to Virginia, and was impressed by Cavaliers coach Mike London, and how he sold his vision for the program and how Goins would fit in on the offensive line. It's not a for sure thing. It's just how it looks.

"Now that I went on those two visits, I learned a lot about both of those schools, so now I'm pretty close," Goins said of a decision. "I learned some stuff I didn't learn before. I got a chance to know the Virginia staff better than I did before. It was just me up there.

"You do a little better when it is solitary then when there are 30 other recruits there."

Goins has not decided when he will announce his choice, but with training camp less than two weeks away, it will be soon.

"I will do it before practice starts," Goins said. "I don't have anything set up yet."
